It is the suggestion of the owner of Tillamook Sporting Goods that the following suggestions be followed for a successful crabbing experience and for the most satisfactory cleaning and cooking of the crabs.

The owner, who was a commercial crabber and pharmacist, explains it this way: “First, it is important to note that we are often hindered in our crabbing efforts by local seals. The answer to getting rid of the seals is using 1/3rd of a mink carcass in the trap. The mink contains the chemical “21 thio-mercapto purine” which attracts the crabs by its scent trail but drives off the seals. I would also suggested that you ‘double bait’ the pots by using a fish carcass along with the mink.”
